I’m often guilty of burying the headline so I’ll get right to the point of this post. Today, I released Old Dogs, Older Tricks – Junkyard Pirate Book #2.

To be entirely honest, I was surprised at the amount of interest Junkyard Pirate, the first book in the series, generated. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed writing the story. The genesis of this story started as more of a fantasy than anything. I’m getting older (mid fifties) and like most folks in my condition, I often lament just how much what I’ve learned would have helped me when I was young. Especially when I could remember things and didn’t get sore for looking at a hammer.

In book one of the series (Junkyard Pirate), we learned about an alien invasion and the nasty things they were doing to Earth. I won’t give away the ending, but suffice it to say, our heroes were successful at raising the alarm, but Earth was left in pretty tough shape.

Old Dogs, Older Tricks starts off right where we left off at the end of Junkyard Pirate. One of the problems we discovered in book one but didn’t resolve was that most of the known galaxy look at humans as being little more intelligent than raccoons. In this next book, this observation really becomes a big problem . Pushed aside and left to their own devices, our heroes really have to get creative to even get back to Earth.

For me the fun part of this story is that I was able to introduce an elite group of old Vietnam vets who bring all their quirks along with them. Imagine bringing back an old ranger squad, give ’em their legs back, tell them that they’re humanity’s only hope. And, make sure they a crazy plan to execute. While not a comedy by any stretch, the book is filled with sarcastic humor common to us old guys.

If I were to summarize the message I wanted to deliver with this latest installment, it is simply — heroes stand up in the face of adversity.

So that’s what I know. Please click here to read this book on Amazon and leave a review if you enjoy it.
