A number of my friends have asked how it is that I will edit Rookie Privateer.  The answer is with an incredible amount of help from my family and friends. I have a wonderful group of readers that have read the manuscript and provided feedback from their perspective. Many people have put in heroic amounts of work reading, editing, suggesting and providing insight with nothing expected in return. It is a humbling process.

I have learned a lot about the process of bringing a book to completion. My sister, Diane, has been patiently coaching me through this process and so what I am sharing with you I probably got directly from her. By the way, visit her website nammynools.com and learn about her wonderful books. (yes a shameless plug)

The process we have followed that will be tweaked has been:

  1. Write the initial story ( this took several months)
  2. run through it to find grammar, spelling, etc
  3. read it out loud to find more grammar, spelling, etc.
  4. feel like that isn’t too bad
  5. solicit readers / send to readers
  6. discover that #2 and #3 weren’t all that well done
  7. have sister do a two pass edit process
  8. hand to my wife to read / edit ( by the way she doesn’t pull punches )
  9. integrate feedback from the readers
  10. send back to sister for final edit / formatting for kindle store

Well I am 45% through step 9. I feel pretty positive about getting through it by the end of this weekend. If that doesn’t happen it could drag out for another week but not a lot longer.

I hope that by the end of April, Rookie Privateer will be available through your kindle.

At this point I am on
