As many of you know, I didn’t start my adult working life as a writer, rather I started as mainframe programmer for a very large software company. Writing computer code has always been enjoyable to me and the career has nicely paid for a home for my family, college for my kids and everything a person would want from a job. As Confucius recommended (not that I knew about it at the time) ‘choose a job you enjoy and never work another day in your life’, I found that programming came easily for me and as a result I have been successful in progressing throughout my career.
What’s this have to do with a ink painting of R2-D2 and BB8 considering each other atop pages from a 1963 printing of ‘I Robot’ by Isaac Asimov? Well, I’ll tell you. As it turns out Tom Sullivan, the artist of the ink you’re looking at, is a friend of mine as well as a user of software that I’ve helped build. At about the same time I decided to enhance my life by sharing my stories, Tom decided to enhance his life by sharing his artwork. As a result, I feel a special kinship with Tom as we’ve approached our art at a similar point in life. I hope you enjoy Tom’s drawing just as I will for years to come.
Thanks, Tom!
Junkyard Pirate? I’m a fan already. I simply hate taking such small nibbles at a time.Looking forward to more soon.
Hi Rick –
Kind of feels like I should take a bigger swing at the story. I bet we’ll see something in 2019.
