If you’ve been reading my blog, you were probably were aware that Parley, third book in the Privateer Tales series was pirated on the Google Play bookstore. Some enterprising person with a poor moral set decided to represent themselves as me, and then list Parley.
I’m happy to report that this has been brought to an end. From what I can glean, Google is fighting their own, epic battle with pirates from around the globe. So much so that they’ve temporarily shut down their book store to new authors.
It took over six weeks to get Google to take down the illegal copy of Parley, but they finally did. When I was able to talk to Google support people, they were very polite and sympathetic. Eventually, they were even successful. I believe my fortune turned on one particular service representative, Dawn, who gave me her word that she would chase the issue down. Dawn of Google – I appreciate your help!
So what happens to all of those illegally purchased copies of Parley? Google has promised to remove them from the consumer devices where they were purchased, and refund that money to those consumers. I hope they have also recovered the money from the pirate and shut down their account. Ideally, they’d take legal action, but I suspect that’s too much to hope for.
Well, the seas are calm again, so I think it’s time to get back to writing!
